They lumber around deserted streets, crash through windows and claw at your body moaning for brains. Images and stories of the undead have littered the silver screen and television sets since the early 1900s and tonight in Brookhaven their “zombified” story shall be told again.

At 7 p.m. The Brookhaven Little Theatre will be hosting Halloween @ The Haven where they will be showing the 1968 film, “Night of the Living Dead.”

Admission is $5 and Greg Russell, Executive Director of the theatre, encourages all guests to arrive in their best zombie attire.

“With the success of shows like The Walking Dead, sking everyone to come as their favorite ghoul seemed like the obvious thing to do,” Russell said.

This year’s Halloween @ The Haven will be the sixth of its kind hosted by the theatre. Russell said each year the theatre does something for the Halloween season and, out of no deliberate intention, the events for each year alternate between something for the younger kids and something for the teenagers and older. This year’s events are geared toward the older kids.

“Night of the Living Dead is like the father of all zombie films,” Russell said.

Directed by George A. Romero the cult classic’s 1968 release was followed by five more films to form a six-film series, ‘The Dead Series’. The film was also remade twice: once in 1990 by Tom Savini and the second time in 2006 by Director Jeff Broadstreet.

“We did a little research and found out we had a connection that could give us the rights to the film for free,” Russell said.

The offering of the movie will be among the first films to grace the Brookhaven Little Theatre since the mid-1980s. The very first few being a collection of short films shown earlier this fall season by Travis Mills, who directed “Duel at the Mound,” a movie that showed at the theatre last week.

“We’re excited about having some movies back in the theatre,” Russell said. “We’re trying to find out ways to make it a more frequent offering.”

In the meantime, Russell invites everyone out to Halloween @ The Haven.

“Costumes are not a requirement, but we encourage everyone to share their best zombie with us and Brookhaven.” Russell said.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. No purchase is necessary if you have a season ticket package, which will be on sale at the door the night of the event.
