Lady Cobras overpower Hazlehurst

HAZLEHURST- The Lady Indians hosted the Lady Cobras Thursday night for a big district contest.
Hazlehurst got the early lead on Wesson but the Lady Cobras came back strong in the fifth and sixth innings to win the game with a final score of 20-4.
“We started out sluggish,” said Lady Cobra coach Michelle Nunnery. “I’m proud of my girls for coming back and getting the win. We have to mentally prepare ourselves for a tough weekend tournament and another crucial district game against Franklin County Tuesday night.”
Wesson (10-10, 5-0) will travel to Bogue Chitto Saturday to participate in the Lady Cats’ tournament. Here is the tournament schedule for the Lady Cobras: Wesson vs. Bogue Chitto at 8:00, Wesson vs. West Lincoln at 10:30, and Wesson vs. Lawrence County at 11:45.
The Lady Cobras will host the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs at home Tuesday night for the district championship. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m. and the varsity plays at 6 p.m.
Wesson 20, Hazlehurst 4
The Lady Cobras defeated the Lady Indians in a 20-4 win. Wesson trailed behind Hazlehurst for the first four-innings but came back strong to win the game.
Cheyenne Gladden (RBI-1) was the Lady Cobra’s big hitter with a triple and three singles. Kayla Britt (RBI-1) and Harmoni Ashley both hit a double and two singles. Aurianna Vaughn hit three singles.
The Cobras’ defense finally came together and kept the Lady Indians off the bases. Harmoni Ashley was busy at first base with six outs.
Cassandra Henley, Nicole Smith, and Asia Madison of the Lady Indians all hit 2 singles.
