Vehicle, lawn mower collision results in death

Wade McElroy, of Lawrence County, was killed by a car Thursday while mowing his lawn at his home.
Lawrence Co. Sheriff Joel Thames said his office received a 911 call reporting that a car had driven off the road hit McElroy as he was mowing his lawn at 193 Old Highway 27 N. Thames said when the first officer arrived on the scene at 5:26 p.m., McElroy was found lying in his yard. After the arrival of an ambulance, he was pronounced dead by medical officials at 5:25 p.m. Thursday.
Lawrence County Coroner, Sidney Fortenberry said McElroy died from blunt force trauma and multiple fractures.
The Monticello Fire department responded to the call at 5:30 p.m. and closed the road and help redirect traffic before returning to the station at 7 p.m.
Thames said McElroy wasa good man and well liked in the community.
The incident is still under investigation.
