Larry Sisson and the Resurrection Eagles spoiled the Enterprise Yellow Jackets’ season home opener Friday night with a 55-0 blowout at Harry Cole Field.

“I did not do enough to get our team mentally and physically prepared for the game,” said Enterprise coach Brooks Burns. “We made too many costly mistakes and penalties that hurt us early on and we never recovered in the first half.

“In the second half, the guys came out and played a lot better,” continued Burns. “We limit our mistakes and had better control running the ball. Resurrection has a very good team. Now, we must regroup and get ready for a short week of practice to prepare for Bogue Chitto.”

In the opening quarter, Enterprise came out excited and pumped to begin the series as they shut down the Eagles’ opening drive to force a turnover on downs.

The Jackets took over on the next series but failed to advance the ball on three plays and had to punt the ball.

After that Resurrection put together a massive scoring spree to overwhelm the young Jackets on the next several possessions to grab a 27-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Senior quarter Larry Sisson led the scoring attack in the first quarter passing for a 14, 11, and 16-yard touchdown strike to teammates Christian Miller, Darius Kennedy and Try Cobb. Sisson also sprinted in a 40-yard touchdown run.

In the second quarter, the Eagles continued to soar past Enterprise as Resurrection scored three more touchdown on scoring drives of a one-yard run by Pat Watts, a five-yard run by Kennedy and a 20-yard touchdown run by Justice Sharp.

Resurrection would cash in their final touchdown drive in the fourth quarter as freshman running back Cearly Parker plowed through for a 10-yard score. Whit Davis finished the night seven-of-eight in extra-point attempts.

“Overall, I was very pleased with my guys’ effort,” said Resurrection coach Scott Sisson. “We have worked hard all summer long to get ready for the season and it showed tonight.”

Offensively, Braxton Thompson was the top rusher for the Jackets with 27 yards on seven carries. Tanner Waldrop contributed 20 yards on two carries.

Sisson paced the Eagles’ offense by completing six of 12 passes for 68 yards and three touchdowns. He also scored a rushing touchdown.

Defensively, Enterprise played well against a faster and explosive Eagles club. Tanner Waldrop, Wesley Blazier and Trevor Freeman recovered a fumble each for the Jacket. The rest of the defensive stats were unavailable at press time Saturday night.

The Jackets will be in action Thursday as they prepare to travel six miles across the county to battle local Lincoln County rival, the Bogue Chitto Bobcats. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
