Lady Cats win two in opener

MEADVILLE – The Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats capture two big victories to officially open their softball 2014 season Saturday in Franklin County softball tournament. The Lady Cats edged the Lawrence County Lady Cougars 5-4 in the first game and clobbered the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs 12-3.
“We had a good opening day,” said BC coach Scott Leggett. “I was pleased with our effort. We played great defense and hit the ball throughout the lineup.”
The Lady Cats (2-0) will be in action today hosting their first home game against the Lawrence County Lady Cougars. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.

Brooke Myers pitched the win for BC collecting one strikeout and no walks.
Barri Rogers suffered the setback for Lawrence County with no strikeouts and two walks.
Terrah Nelson was the offensive leader at the plate for the Lady Cats with a double and a single. Mallory Allen and Colby Kirkland contributed a pair of singles apiece. Hitting safely were Alana Nettles, Cherie Savoie, Baileigh Jackson and Myers.
Madison Hype paced the Lady Cougars at the plate with a double and a single. Karli Bass had a double. Callie Fortenberry, Alexsundria Thomas, Lexie Johnson, Cheyene Long, Maddux Kirkland and Rogers hit safely.

Myers captured her second win on the mound for BC with one strikeout and no walks.
Christian Black provided the offensive spark to lead the Lady Cats with a home run. Nelson added fuel to the flames with three singles. Zariah Mathews, Kirkland, Allen, Nettles and Savoie ripped a pair singles apiece. Myers contributed a single.
