Brady Wilson’s outstanding pitching/catching performances and booming home runs will be remembered in West Lincoln’s baseball history. He was one of the keys in West Lincoln’s memorial season march to the playoffs.

Wilson’s accomplishments at the plate, behind the plate and on the mound have received huge reviews from college coaches. Just recently, Wilson signed an athletic scholarship to play baseball for Southwest Mississippi Community College.

For his accomplishments, Wilson has been named The DAILY LEADER’s Most Valuable Player and Mr. Baseball on the 2014 All-Area Team.

The DAILY LEADER’s All-Area Dream Team is composed of players around the area. It was selected by the DAILY LEADER’s sports staff, with input provided by high school referees and college coaches.

Other special awards went to Brookhaven Academy senior catcher Landon Nettles, pegged All-Area Offensive Player. Enterprise’s ace pitcher Jackson Cole received the All-Area Defensive Player Award.

Joining Cole on the pitching mound are Caleb Yarborough of Loyd Star, Bailey Warren and Newt Riley, both of Brookhaven Academy.

Receiving honors with Wilson and Nettles as catcher is T-Tex Cole of Lawrence County,

The infielders are Brock Roberts of Bogue Chitto, Landon Roberts of Bogue Chitto, Alex Neal of West Lincoln, Kody Smith of Lawrence County and Tyler McLeod of Wesson.

In the outfield is Seth Farmer of Loyd Star, Reed Jones of Brookhaven, Kewaun May of Lawrence County, Lane Boyd of Enterprise and Derrick Brumfield of Franklin County.

Designated hitters are Jase Alexander of Wesson, Ty Forman of West Lincoln, Bernard Selmon of Franklin County and Nick Kesler of Brookhaven.

Utility players are Peyton Flowers of Loyd Star, Austin Crow of Wesson, Austin Fuller of Enterprise and Steven Ginn of Bogue Chitto.

All-purpose players are Myles Tipton of Brookhaven and Hoby Mullins of Franklin County.

Brady Wilson  was the Bears’ ace on the mound. He compiled a 7-5 record this season and had a 2.00 ERA, striking out 106 batters and walking 33.

Wilson played in the 41st annual All-Star baseball game Saturday.

As a catcher, Wilson batted .487, hit 11 homers and drove in 38 runs for Coach Steve Barrington.

On defense, Wilson posted a .980 fielding percentage against opposing teams.

“Brady Wilson is one of the hardest workers we had on the team,” said Barrington. “His success is very much deserved especially with the extra hours and work he has put in. Overall, he had a great year, but his best is still in front of him.”

Landon Nettles was the team leader behind the plate on defense as he posted .983 fielding percentage against opposing teams as a catcher.

On offense, he batted .500 for Brookhaven Academy. He drove in 34 runs, hit 7 homers, 14 doubles and 1 triple.

“Landon was our team captain as well as our offensive leader,” said BA coach Casey Edwards. “He had such a great year for us and helped us to win 17 games and advance the playoffs.

Nettles signed a baseball scholarship to play for the Jones County Community Junior College Bobcats and pursue a career in engineering.

Jackson Cole played a huge role in Enterprise’s mid-season turn around to win the Region 8-2A division crown.

Cole compiled an 4-2 record on the season. His precise pitching earned him a 1.10 ERA, striking out 101 batters and allowed 15 walks.

As a shortstop, Cole batted .360, drove in 20 runs for Enterprise Coach Cass Brister.

“Jackson is a talented athlete,” said Brister. “He is a hard-working individual that will not quit, and he provides great leadership to the team.”

Cole will be taking his baseball talents to the next level after signing a baseball scholarship with the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves.

Caleb Yarborough, a junior, compiled a 7-2 record for Loyd Star. He had a 1.88 ERA, striking out 69 batters and walking 11.

Bailey Warren, a senior, posted a 4-3 worksheet for the BA Cougars. He chalked up 60 strikeouts and owned a 1.06 ERA.

Newt Riley, a senior, went 4-1 on the mound earning a 1.70 ERA with 59 strikeouts in 37 innings pitched for BA.

T-Tex Cole, a sophomore, earned a .449 batting average for the Lawrence County Cougars.

Brock Roberts, a senior, posted a .326 batting average and drove in 21 runs with Bogue Chitto.

Landon Roberts, a senior, batted .341 at the plate for Bogue Chitto.

Alex Neal, a junior, compiled a .422 average for the West Lincoln Bears.

Kody Smith a junior, had a productive year for Lawrence County. He had a .422 batting average.

Tyler McLeod, a junior, helped the Wesson Cobras with a .328 average at the plate.

Seth Farmer, a senior, provided leadership for the Loyd Star Hornets. He batted .432 on the season.

Reed Jones, a senior, was a force in the outfield. He earned a .376 batting average for Brookhaven.

Kewaun May a senior, batted .365 for the LCHS Cougars.

Lane Boyd, a junior, posted a .440 average for the Enterprise Jackets.

Derrick Brumfield, a senior, batted .432 for the Franklin County Bulldogs.

Jase Alexander, a senior, was the leader for the Cobras as he batted .379 on the season.

Ty Forman, a junior, batted an .434 for West Lincoln.

Bernard Selmon, a junior, posted a .436 batting average for the Bulldogs.

Nick Kesler, a junior, earned a .298 average at the plate for the Brookhaven Panthers.

Peyton Flowers, a junior, had a productive season for the Hornets. He batted .381.

Austin Crow, a senior, a gifted athlete for the Cobras, earned a .370 batting average.

Austin Fuller, a senior, orchestrated a .358 batting average for Enterprise.

Steven Ginn, a junior, played a big role in Bogue Chitto’s season with a .402 average.

Myles Tipton, a senior, earned a .256 average at the plate for Brookhaven.

Hoby Mullins, a senior, had a productive season for the Bulldogs. He batted .316 and on the mound he posted a 4-1 worksheet.
