Post members and other volunteers placed flags on the graves of veterans buried at Rosehill, Carver Heights, Hillcrest, Easthaven and the Catholic cemeteries, along with other cemeteries in the city and county, in advance of Memorial Day. Matthews said the American Legion post places the flags on the graves twice a year – on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Sides, who is new to the area, said he came to help when he saw the calendar notice about the event in The Daily Leader.
