A woman has been rescued and a man has been arrested in Lawrence County on multiple charges, including kidnapping and murder.

On Thursday, May 1, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of burglary on QD Smith Lane, south of Silver Creek.

“During the onset of the investigation, deputies received some information and noticed some suspicious activity at the next door residence, a residence that was supposed to be unoccupied,” said Sheriff Ryan Everett in a posted statement.

Deputies discovered a male and female in the house. Investigation determined the man, Isaiah Dajion Herring of Columbia, had held the woman captive for several days, “subjecting her to the most extreme levels of inhumane treatment,” Everett said.

The victim, who is not being identified, has been hospitalized.

Herring is charged with kidnapping, attempted murder, first degree murder of an unborn child, and burglary of a dwelling.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim for a speedy recovery,” Everett said.
