‘Be filled’ on National Day of Prayer

Published 10:45 am Tuesday, April 29, 2025

Thursday, May 1, is the 2025 National Day of Prayer. The theme this year is “Pour out to the God of hope and be filled.”

The theme comes from the biblical passage of Romans 15:13 — “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

The Day of Prayer will be observed in Lincoln County on the steps of the Government Building, 301 South First St., Brookhaven, at noon Thursday.

The national observance began in 1952 when Congress passed a joint resolution to “set aside and proclaim a suitable day each year, other than a Sunday, as a National Day of Prayer, on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as individuals.” President Harry S. Truman signed the resolution into law, and President Ronald Reagan amended the resolution in 1988 to set the annual observance as the first Thursday of each May.
