Videos are circulating online of Easter weekend fistfights at Mississippi Ice Daiquiri Company in downtown Brookhaven.
Brookhaven Police were called to the establishment at 214 South Whitworth Ave. at approximately 11:45 p.m. Saturday in response to calls of fighting.
Special Response Team Commander Jonathan Hart said officers who responded reported everyone had cleared out of the area by the time they arrived.
The incident is under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact BPD at 601-833-2424.
Mayor Joe Cox issued a statement Tuesday on this incident, as well as the weekend shootings.
“The recent incidents of violence in downtown Brookhaven, as well as in other areas of the city this past weekend, are deeply troubling and will not be tolerated. We have worked diligently to build a community where local residents and visitors alike can enjoy themselves in a safe environment. We will not allow those with no regard for humanity or the law to destroy what we have built,” Cox said.
“I have spoken with Brookhaven Police Chief Collins and requested thorough investigations into each of these matters. If necessary, I will engage additional law enforcement agencies to ensure those responsible are held fully accountable,” said Cox. “The safety and well-being of our residents remain my highest priority, and I am fully committed to strengthening public safety and reducing crime throughout our community.”
