Some of the best prizes at Brookhaven Animal Rescue League’s Easter Egg Hunt won’t be in the hundreds of colorful, plastic eggs hidden around the Adoption Center, but in the pens and cages, waiting to be “found.”

The BARL volunteer staff are sponsoring an Easter egg hunt Saturday, April 19, starting at 1 p.m. for children age 10 and under. The eggs will contain candy and other surprises, said volunteer Sonya Littlefield.

There will be opportunities to take pictures with Easter-themed decor and for kids to participate with arts and crafts. Snacks and bottled water will be available.

Families and children of all ages are encouraged to visit with the cat and dogs housed at the no-kill shelter, even if they’re not planning to adopt, she said. The animals love the interaction and it helps with socialization.

Staff will be on hand to help with the adoption process if needed.

BARL’s mission is to humanely care for shelter animals while contributing to community activities that reduce pet overpopulation, encourage responsible pet ownership, protect public health and safety and promote the human-animal bond.

The entrance to BARL is located at 501 North Park Drive, which is directly across the street from the water tower on Industrial Park Road.
