Betty Joyce Douglas Byrd

A celebration of life will be held for Mrs. Betty Joyce Douglas Byrd at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5–8 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Riverwood Family and will resume at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Pleasant Grove until the time of service.

Betty Joyce Douglas Byrd, 87, of Brookhaven, passed away April 13, 2025, at her residence. She was born in Brookhaven, MS, May 14, 1937, to Jewel Douglas and Hollice Smith Douglas.

Mrs. Byrd was an Enterprise High School graduate and a Colette at Copiah Lincoln Community College. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she was an Acteens leader, choir member, member of the WMU ministry, and Sunday school teacher for many years.

“Miss” Betty was loved by many and made everyone she came in contact with feel loved and special. She was a very uplifting lady that was known for her love of cooking, making every holiday special, and caring for her husband of 66 years, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were the joy of her life. She loved her church and serving her Lord her whole life.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son, William Larue Byrd; sister, Irene Meredith (Jay); brothers, Bobby Douglas and Richard Douglas; brothers-in-law, Jamie Byrd (Jean), Keith Byrd, Dr. Jerry Robinson Jr., Gene Holmes, Carol Jackson, and Glen Roberts.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Jerry Larue Byrd; daughters, Sherry Byrd Powell (Ken) and Stacy Byrd Miller (Joie); brother, Connie Mack Douglas (Charlene); sisters, Libby Holmes Jackson and  Rebra Grace Roberts; sisters-in-law, Bettye Douglas, Barbara Douglas, and Barbara Jean Byrd Robinson; 6 grandchildren, Joy Powell Gregory (Chad), Taylor Byrd (Lindsey), Jamison Powell (Shelby), Holly Byrd Harrell, Jeri Allison Campi, and Missy Noel Clanton; 2 step-grandchildren, Joseph Miller and Madeline Miller; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ray Montalvo; Dr. Paul Dykes; the staff of Deaconess Hospice Care; and her sitters, Mary Graham, Judy Arnold, Tammy Moak, and Lashaun Eley for their care.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building Fund.
