“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you…” — 1 Peter 3:15 (NKJV)

As Christians we are to always be prepared to tell our story, to share what Jesus has done in, for, and to us. This is not an option that we might choose to follow, the Word of God states very clearly that we are to “always be ready” to tell what He means to us. 

I read some time ago that fewer than 10% of all Christians have shared their faith with anyone. How can this be? If we are indeed Christians, then, by definition, we are disciples, or students of Jesus Christ. As students we are to follow the instructions of our teacher. To fail at this brings our devotion to discipleship into question and undermines the integrity of our Christian walk.

Is it possible then that many who profess to be followers of Christ (Christians) only have their names listed in the church roll of membership?

It’s time for the Church to seek revival, for our members to rise up in spirit against lackluster preaching and the teaching of the traditions of men as the doctrine of God. We must get back to the Word of God for the people of God if we are going to continue to be called the Church. We must begin in earnest to live as the Church, to speak as the Church, to obey as the Church. We’ve got to get back to the basics of Christianity, to following obediently the teaching of Jesus Christ, and the leading of God the Holy Spirit. Every Christian should be ready to share his or her testimony; we should all be eager to tell someone about Jesus and of what He has done for us and of what He will do for them. 

If we have any hope at all in fulfilling the Great Commission, we must tell again and again, “The Greatest Story Ever Told” and we must share “the hope that is within us” as a result of our relationship with the Lord Jesus. The world is waiting for an all but silent Church to rise up and testify to the Goodness of God, and to the grace and mercy that He longs to share.
