Severe storms expected tonight

Severe storms are in the forecast Saturday night into Sunday morning for central and southwest Mississippi. A wind advisory is already in effect.

NWS Jackson issued a wind advisory at 1:35 pm until 7 pm. Winds out of the south could reach sustained speeds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 40 to 50 mph. These winds could blow around unsecured objects, make travel difficult for high profile vehicles and bring down limbs and trees on power lines.

Zetus Volunteer Fire Department responded to a grass fire sparked by a downed powerline in Wakefield Lane Saturday morning. There is a possibility of more power outages and wildfires started by downed lines with the gusty winds.
