A hospice social worker in Brookhaven has received national recognition for her dedication to those in her care.
Heather Wilson with Compassus has been named March’s Gold Standard award winner by Homecare Homebase, a software provider for home-based care. The recognition is extra special for Wilson because it comes in a month dedicated to social workers.
The Gold Standard Award celebrates outstanding home-based caregivers who utilize Homecare Homebase to deliver exceptional patient care. Nominees are submitted by their agency leaders and chosen by the HCHB team for their expertise, enthusiasm and steadfast dedication.
“”It is rare to find someone who embodies the true spirit of service and hospice care as Heather,” said Mae Letha Butler, director of clinical services at Compassus in Brookhaven.
Butler said Wilson is dedicated to “unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of patients and families” as well as the community.
“She advocates for hospice patients, provides family education and leads outreach efforts, offering trust, guidance and support through workshops, support groups and counseling,” she said.
Of Wilson’s 23 years as a social worker, nearly 18 have been spent at Compassus in Brookhaven.
She was shocked when she’d heard she was this month’s recipient, then humbled and honored.
Wilson has a deep commitment for treating the patients in her care with dignity and respect that spills over to her patients’ families as well.
“We hope to be able to bring them some kind of comfort and joy,” she said.
Social workers like Wilson provide support not just to their patients and their families, but to their colleagues as well, said Brandy Sparkman-Beierle, chief clinical officer at Homecare Homebase.
“Her leadership, integrity and dedication not only uplift those in her care but also create a collaborative and supportive work environment for her team,” she said. “As we celebrate Social Worker Awareness Month, we’re proud to recognize Heather’s impact by naming her this month’s Gold Standard Award winner.”
