Two men have been arrested during an anti-looting operation in storm-damaged areas of Jefferson Davis County.
On March 18, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Mississippi Highway Patrol, and Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Office conducted a proactive crime prevention operation in the county in response to a request from JDCSO.
During this time, law enforcement officers encountered two persons.
Jeremy Wilkerson of Jones County, age 33, was arrested and charged and possession of methamphetamine. His vehicle was located on private property near Sam Graham Road, in an area devastated by storms. When officers approached, they found Wilkerson inside and a search of the vehicle uncovered suspected meth, multiple pieces of copper wiring, and tools believed to be used for burglary.
A second arrest involved a Gallatin, Tennessee, man — William Ahlers, age 32. He was also charged with possession of methamphetamine. Officers conducted a traffic stop on his vehicle near Candy Lane for a traffic violation as he was traveling through the storm-damage area at approximately 1 a.m. March 19.
Both men were transported to Jefferson Davis County Jail.
“In times of need, our state comes together to support one another, and we are committed to assisting in the protection of people’s belongings and ensuring safety throughout the area,” said Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell.
Anyone who believes their property may have been vandalized or missing copper wiring is encouraged to contact JDCSO at 601-792-8856.
“We appreciate the efforts of DPS working in our county,” said Sheriff Ron Strickland. “The presence alone helps tremendously.”
