Tuesday, April 1, is the day for Brookhaven’s registered voters to cast their ballots for mayor and members of the Board of Aldermen.

Polls citywide will be open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Anyone already in line to vote at 7 p.m. will be allowed to do so. Ballots will be tabulated at the Lincoln County/Brookhaven Government Complex and results announced later that evening.

If a runoff is needed — Ward 6 would be the only possibility — it will take place on Tuesday, April 22.

The General Election is Tuesday, June 3, and all newly-elected or re-elected candidates will take office on July 1. That night at 6 p.m. will be the first City Board meeting with the new board.

Anyone unsure of their polling place should contact the City Clerk’s Office at 601-833-2362 or visit www.dustinbairfield.com for a map of wards and list of polling places. To review candidates’ answers to questionnaires from The Daily Leader, visit www.dailyleader.com.

The Democrat Primary Ballot will have the following offices. Wards will vary depending on the ward of residence for the voter.

Mayor — Larry Jointer

Alderman-at-Large — Jeffrey L. Jordan and Ronald L. Hines

Ward 1 — James Magee Jr. (incumbent) and James Vincent Payton

Ward 2 — Shannon Moore (incumbent) and Ann Wilson

Ward 3 — Charles James Caston Sr. (incumbent) and Jennifer M. Howard-Tate

Ward 6 — Andre’ D. Spiller Sr. (incumbent), Alan “Trey” Henderson and Burnell Robinson

The Republican Primary ballot will have the following offices. Wards will vary depending on the ward of residence for the voter.

Mayor —Joe C. Cox (incumbent)

Alderman-at-Large — Don Underwood (incumbent) and Guy Orr

Ward 4 — Jeff Henning (incumbent)

Ward 5 — Fletcher Grice (incumbent) and Tristan Peavey

Races will be decided in the Primary for Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 3 and Ward 5 since both candidates are in the same political party. Ward 4 is already decided since the incumbent has no opponent.

If no clear winner emerges Tuesday in Ward 6, the top two vote-getters will be on a runoff ballot April 22.

The mayoral race and Alderman-at-Large race will both advance to the General Election, since one candidate from each party will be decided April 1.
