Forest Service firefighters are working to contain a large wildfire along Kings Ferry Road in Franklin County.

More than 1,500 acres are involved in the fire south of Meadville. Forest Service officials advice people in and near Meadville that they could see smoke in the area Thursday and Friday. Motorists should exercise caution because visibility may be limited.

The fire is on Forest Service land, and has not damaged any homes or structures. Firefighters hope to have the fire completely contained later Thursday. Forest Service officials shared that it is a wildfire and not related to any prescribed fires. The cause of the fire is under investigation by law enforcement.
