Severe storms, strong winds forecast for Tuesday

BROOKHAVEN — Severe storms are in Tuesday’s forecast along with strong winds for Lincoln County. The National Weather Service warns tornadoes, hail and damaging winds could threaten the area.
Cloud cover has moved in over night following a weekend of sunshine and beautiful temperatures. The rain threat Monday is minimal but Tuesday will be a 100 percent chance of precipitation.
NWS Jackson issued a wind advisory which will be in effect from 9 a.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Tuesday. The wind advisory is due to forecasted wind speeds reaching 15 to 20 mph with gusts as high as 40 mph. Unsecured objects could be blown around and tree limbs or weakened trees could be blown down and potentially cause power outages. Travel could become difficult for high profile vehicles.
Severe storms are forecast to move through Lincoln County between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday. Tornadoes are possible and some could possibly be strong with damaging wind gusts reaching 70 mph. Hail up to a quarter in size is likely.
