BROOKHAVEN — Last Friday, Enterprise’s Future Farmers of America program built its 129th bed in the last five years as part of their No Kid Sleeps on the Floor program. Monday, Keith White Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram hosted a celebration for the program’s students and teacher Mollie Goldman.
Confetti rained down as Jeffrey White presented a $10,000 check on behalf of the Ram Trucks “Built to Serve,” contest and Stellantis to Goldman. Goldman said they won the check in a TikTok, a social media app, contest back in January.
“It was a contest my kids saw on TikTok. I had no idea what it was,” Goldman said. “We submitted a video for it and I didn’t think about it again. We got a message one day saying we were a finalist and then we learned we won. The other programs were way larger than ours so to win is crazy and humbling.”
The program’s TikTok Video shows students working on various steps of the project and includes information about how they serve the community. Comments on the video counted as votes in the contest and it had over 500 comments.
White had another surprise up his sleeve for the Enterprise students. Two red Ram pickup trucks pulled to the front of the building with eight mattresses, a load of lumber and screws to build more beds. The program runs entirely off of donations and the supplies were donated by Home Hardware and Tillman’s Furniture Store.
Following the confetti, surprise supply donation and check presentation, students were treated to lunch inside the dealership.
“I don’t know how to describe it. It is overwhelming and a blessing,” Goldman said. “I’m thankful for it. I hope we can continue to do good and inspire others.”
Enterprise’s No Kid Sleeps on the Floor program initially built beds for children in foster care. Goldman said they have expanded their service to take care of children in need of a bed if a house burns down.
Over the years the program has delivered beds to children in Lincoln, Pike, Franklin and Lawrence Counties and even as far away as Biloxi.
“We appreciate what you do for this community. If everyone did a little bit of good we would be a better place,” White said. “We hope we can do the same good as well.”
