Severe storms forecast for next week

BROOKHAVEN — Blue skies, sunshine and 70 degree weather could give way to severe storms next week. The National Weather Service started warning of the threat of severe weather next week this past Wednesday.
With the weather event days away, there are few specific details about the storms. However, NWS Jackson warns severe storms and tornadoes could be possible for Lincoln County with the risk of severe storms increasing. Those storms could move through the area between Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night.
In its forecast discussion, NWS Jackson states there is a better likelihood of storms capable of producing damaging wind gusts reaching 70 mph and tornadoes in enhanced risk areas. Slight risk areas could see damaging wind gusts reaching 60 mph and tornadoes possible. Lincoln County is currently shown in the slight risk area.
NWS Jackson advises people to prepare and review their severe weather plans ahead of the storms next week. With the storms, there is a chance for rain amounts up to two inches.
