BROOKHAVEN — It is not often that the National Weather Service in Jackson starts to warn of severe weather threats a week in advance but next week is one exception. NWS Jackson started warning there was an outlook for severe storms Wednesday.
Thursday morning, the outlook grew more confident in severe weather potential. With the weather event days away, there are few specific details. However, NWS Jackson warns severe storms and tornadoes could be likely for half of Lincoln County and possible for the other half.
In its forecast discussion, NWS Jackson states there is a better likelihood of storms capable of producing damaging wind gusts reaching 70 mph and tornadoes in enhanced risk areas. Slight risk areas could see damaging wind gusts reaching 60 mph and tornadoes possible.
NWS Jackson advises people to prepare and review their severe weather plans.
Sunshine and blue bird skies are in the forecast this weekend so residents should take advantage of the nice weather while it is here.
