Bridge closes for construction

MT. ZION — TL Wallace Construction brought in a crane Tuesday afternoon to start test driving pillings for a bridge on Lott Smith road over the Bayou Pierre down the hill from Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The bridge is out of service and the road is closed.

The bridge had timber components in the pilings which is a reason why it is being replaced. District 5 Supervisor Doug Falvey said it could take six months for the bridge project to be done.

As previously reported by The Daily Leader, it will take at least three weeks for the permanent pilings to be made for the new bridge and it will look like nothing is being done.

Residents and drivers should make plans to take alternate routes if they are affected by the bridge being out.
