Fire destroys home in Ruth

RUTH — No one was injured in a house fire in Ruth Thursday afternoon. The home was a total loss to the fire and was fully involved when the first firefighter arrived on scene.

Lincoln County Volunteer Firefighters from Ruth, East Lincoln, Hog Chain and Bogue Chitto Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to the fire on Raiford Trail around 1:50 p.m. Lawrence County Fire Department responded as mutual aid. A billowing column of smoke could be seen on MS-583 about eight miles from the scene.

Firefighters worked the scene for a couple of hours as the fire had spread through much of the home and piles of rubble were smoldering throughout the structure.

Ruth General Store announced it would take monetary donations for the family. Additionally, Lincoln Baptist Association will begin collecting donations for the family in Ruth and another local family who lost homes to fires in the past week. Starting Monday, people can drop off monetary donations at the Lincoln Baptist Association office located at 640 Halbert Heights Road in Brookhaven.

Lincoln County is served by Bogue Chitto, East Lincoln, Heucks Retreat, Hog Chain, Loyd Star, New Sight, Ruth and Zetus Volunteer Fire Departments and dedicated volunteers are always needed.
