ARLINGTON — No homes were damaged by a wildfire Monday evening in the Arlington community. Volunteer firefighters and the Mississippi Forestry Commission worked to keep the fire under control.
Firefighters were initially dispatched to the area of Gene Road and London Drive Monday evening. The observed fire danger rating class was low Monday and is forecasted to be low with rain in the forecast and low Keetch-Byram Drought Index ratings.
According to MFC Public Information Officer Kevin Craft, the wildfire burned 120 acres. Bogue Chitto and Zetus Volunteer Fire Departments aided in the firefighting. The fire was in a field in the southern grading district for Zetus.
March is typically the month MFC celebrates wildfire prevention. Mississippi’s wildfire season typically runs from October to April although wildfires can happen anytime of the year depending on conditions. Please use caution when burning.
