Wednesday severe weather risk upgraded

BROOKHAVEN — Severe storms and flash flooding risks were upgraded for Lincoln County according to the National Weather Service. Readers can expect rain showers to start Tuesday afternoon and those showers to continue into the night. 

With the rain starting Tuesday, NWS Jackson warns of a limited threat of flash flooding. Anywhere from one to three inches of rain is expected with localized flash flooding possible and minor river flooding. The flooding potential could come early Wednesday morning through Wednesday night. 

Wednesday will have showers and thunderstorms most likely after noon. There is a 100 percent chance of precipitation Wednesday. NWS Jackson warns there is a slight risk of severe storms Wednesday with damaging wind gusts and possible tornadoes. NWS puts the timing of those severe storms to be between mid-morning Wednesday and into the evening. Rain will continue Wednesday night.

Thursday will be sunny with a high of 60 degrees. Isolated showers will be in the forecast starting Thursday night through Friday night. 

NWS Jackson forecasts showers and thunderstorms will be likely Saturday with a 70 percent chance of precipitation at this time. Rain chances will continue Saturday night with a 90 percent chance of precipitation. 

The National Weather Service is warning of possible severe storm risk starting Saturday. Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes will be likely Saturday across central and southwest Mississippi. Due to the severe weather event being several days away there are not a lot of details.
