Gwendolyn ‘Gwen’ Maxwell May

Gwendolyn “Gwen” Maxwell May, 72, of Bogue Chitto, MS passed away February 8, 2025 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at First Baptist Church Summit from 11:00 AM until services at 1:00 PM. Private graveside services will be held following the funeral service.  Dr. Larry LeBlanc will officiate. Hartman Jones Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.

Gwen was born on October 27, 1952 in McComb, MS to TJ Maxwell and Pearline Lofton Maxwell.

She was a member of First Baptist Church Summit, where she served as a Sunday school teacher. She taught English at Southwest Mississippi Community College for 28 years. She enjoyed woodworking and crafting, along with cooking for family and spending quality time with her grandson and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister-in-law Carolyn Adams.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, George May of Bogue Chitto, MS; her children, Karen May of Bogue Chitto, MS, and Keri Davis (Brad) of Bogue Chitto, MS; a grandson, Mason Davis; a brother, Greg Maxwell (Jackie) of Summit, MS; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Charles Andrews, Warren Adams, Tucker Adams, Tom Maxwell, Steven Brumfield, Adam Brumfield, John Roberts and Mason Davis.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the SMCC Foundation Scholarship Program, 1156 College Dr. Summit, MS 39666.
