BROOKHAVEN — Randy Emfinger knows Lincoln County like the back of his hand. The Dungan Engineering employee has worked with the company for 17 years and spent around 35 years with other previous county engineers.

He stepped into Ryan Holmes’ shoes to give an engineering update to the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors Monday morning. Holmes was at a meeting in Wilkinson County Emfinger said the company has been blessed to have a lot of revenue and projects including roads and bridges.

“The bond paving project we have is continuing. We are going back to catch other roads,” Emfinger said. “Auburn Drive bridge project was long but we are at the close out now. We are working on a punch list. Most is done but we need dry weather to fix the slopes. Punch list work for Opelusas has been done and paperwork turned in.”

Emfinger said the Opelousas project turned out to be a good project as the contractor got the job done in a timely manner with great quality.

“It is always good to have contractors who will work with supervisors and people,” Emfinger said. “They did a great job.”

He told the board the old US51 bridge project is getting closer to opening for bids. MDOT and the US government are involved in the project which can cause delays. Emfinger said the work before bids can be received is 95 percent complete.

Any visitors to the courthouse may have noticed how hot it is upstairs in the courtroom. Work on replacing and renovating the courthouse’s HVAC system continues. During court Wednesday, the sound of contractors working on the system could be heard. Emfinger said the project will hopefully be finished soon.

Odds and ends

On Harvey Drive, Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality needs to do a field review of the project site. Environmental reports are finished.

The National Resources Conservation Service will help with a project on River Road in District 3. Serious erosion has caused a washout around a culvert posing a hazard to the road. Emfinger said it was great to get help on the project from NRCS. Plans for the project are fully developed.

Dungan Engineering is working on plans to replace Russell Lane Bridge in District 5. The bridge failed an inspection back in October and was closed.

In District 2, Supervisors voted to award a contract to Crosby Dirt Services for $12,000 to replace pipes on Truvillion Trail NE.

Work to replace bridges on Bethel and Lott Smith Roads will be underway soon, Dungan Engineering reported.
