MSA celebrates Black History Month with multiple guests

Mississippi School of the Arts is celebrating Black History Month with several special-guest events and a month-long art show.
The Art exhibit will be open to the public in the Enochs Hall Art Gallery with free admission 5:30-7 p.m. on Feb. 4, 6, 7, 12, 13 and 20.
Other free events open to the public are:
- Jalen Gilbert, Tuesday, Feb. 4, 6 p.m. at Enochs Black Box Theatre. Gilbert is an MSA alum who has had acting roles on such shows as “Shameless,” “Chicago Med,” and “Justified: City Primeval.”
- Maximus Wright, Friday, Feb. 7, 6 p.m. at Enochs Black Box Theatre. A Mississippi native, Wright is a filmmaker, author and motivational speaker. Founder of the Jackson Film Festival, he has written and directed such films as “Soul Damage,” “My Name is Lola,” and “Badge Unbroken.”
- Ezekiel McCall, Tuesday, Feb. 11, 6 p.m. at Lampton Auditorium. MSA alum McCall is a Broadway actor and vocalist, and has appeared in such productions as “Disney’s The Lion King,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
- Nic Stone, Wednesday, Feb. 12, 6 p.m. at Enochs Black Box Theatre. An author, Stone has worked extensively in teen mentoring and writes full-time. She strives to bring her multi-culture, multi-religious background into her work.
- Stephen Phillips, Thursday, Feb. 13, 5:30 p.m. at Enochs Art Gallery. Mississippi native Phillips is an awarded ceramics artist who incorporates his faith in God into his work.
- Michelle Gibson, Thursday, Feb. 20, 6 p.m. at Enochs Black Box Theatre. Gibson is a choreographer and dancer, and professor at Southern Methodist University.
MSA Dance Department will also host Italian-born New York-based dancer Antonio Fini in the Enochs Black Box Theatre on Thursday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. for a free event.
