Severe storms, strong winds a threat Thursday

BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County could see severe weather threats Thursday night. According to the National Weather Service, there is also a 100 percent chance of rain Thursday night.
Overcast skies and sprinkling rain greeted Lincoln County this morning while birds were active and singing. NWS Jackson warns severe weather could arrive Thursday night. Isolated severe storms are possible, damaging wind gusts and tornadoes can not be ruled out according to the forecast.
Timing of isolated severe storms would be between 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 a.m. Friday. Strong winds will start this afternoon. Sustained wind speeds of 20 to 25 mph are forecast for Lincoln County and Southwest Mississippi. Wind gusts between 30 to 40 mph will be possible at times.
Strong winds could cause weakened trees and limbs to break and fall. In turn, this could cause power lines to break off. High profile vehicles may become unsteady in gusts.
