Pet lovers age 60 and older can take advantage of the PAWS program to save a lot of money when adopting a dog or cat from Brookhaven Animal Rescue League.
BARL’s Placing Animals With Seniors (PAWS) program offers a $75 discount on regular adoption fees to these older pet parents who are ready to take home a new four-legged best friend.
BARL volunteer Beth Adcock said this is one of BARL’s favorite community programs.
PAWS is sponsored by Pets for the Elderly. Their mission is to reduce the number of animals in shelters while providing companionship, health, and happiness to senior citizens.
PAWS adoption fees are $10 for cats and $25-50 for dogs. All pets available for adoption at BARL are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.
Many adoptable pets can be seen online at BARL.net/adopt. If a senior is looking for a dog of a particular size, he or she can call 601-757-4367 or email info@BARL.net.
