ZETUS — A beautiful creek was marred by bags of trash illegally dumped on Fern Lane Thursday. Robert Knight, Lincoln County Litter and Solid Waste Control Coordinator, operated a bucket to pick up the trash with the help of trustees from the Lincoln County Jail.
Knight said it burns him when people dump trash in creeks in Lincoln County. He has expressed frustration in the past about how certain people treat the county.
In this particular case, the litter was dumped at a bridge crossing Doolittle Creek. Knight pointed to a cross standing underneath the towering limbs of an American Sycamore tree.. Its faded paint pays tribute to Alli Danae Mullins who died on May 16, 2020 from injuries sustained in a crash at the bridge.
Just beyond the beautiful tribute, a trustee used a pole to pluck styrofoam plates, beer cans and other pieces of litter out of the water. Residents are reminded that it is a collective responsibility to keep Lincoln County beautiful.
Anyone who sees littering take place should report the type of vehicle, tag number and location to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office or Litter Control at 601-757-2568.
