BROOKHAVEN — A stack of 14 boring permits from various companies Monday may have been the last straw for the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors. The board voted to implement a new fee for boring permits.

Conexon accounted for nine of the 14 permits, Franklin Telephone had three permits, Entergy and C-Spire had one each.

Supervisors had discussed the idea numerous times in 2024. Neighboring Copiah County charges a $250 fee for boring permits for Utility Companies. Lincoln County voted to implement a $300 fee for utility companies to bore under public roads and in the county’s right of ways.

Lincoln County Engineer Ryan Holmes had mentioned in the past the permits take considerable time and work to process. Some companies are better with their boring permits than others and supervisors have been asked to do a site visit before issuing the permit.

Under the new fee, utility companies will pay $300 per permit.
