Two Brookhaven men have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with an early-morning homicide on Auburn Drive Saturday.

At approximately 2:40 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a possible shooting involving a vehicle on Auburn Drive, just south of the intersection with Arlington Road.

When deputies arrived, they were met by a witness who said they were driving south on Auburn Drive when they came upon a car stopped in the roadway. The witness saw a subject standing outside the vehicle who then fired several gunshots into the vehicle from the driver’s side.

The subject then ran south on Auburn Drive and was picked up by a second vehicle that came from behind the witness, and continued south on Auburn. The second vehicle is described as a passenger car, dark color — possibly red — with a paper license tag.

Deputies found a person in the passenger seat of the stopped vehicle who appeared to have been shot numerous times, said Sheriff Steve Rushing. Later identified as Daniel Jackson of Hattiesburg, he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lincoln County Coroner’s Office.

During the course of the investigation, LCSO investigators were able to obtain warrants for suspects Jadahn Brooks, age 20, and James Robinson Jr., age 21, both of Brookhaven. Information provided during the investigation revealed that Brooks was an associate of the victim, and Robinson was a friend of Brooks.

Working with the 14th Circuit Court District Attorney’s Office, locations for Robinson and Brooks were obtained in the Gulfport area, Sheriff Steve Rushing said. On Monday evening, Dec. 30, Gulfport Police officers were able to take both suspects into custody without incident.

LCSO investigators traveled to Gulfport and were returning to Lincoln County with the suspects on Tuesday. Both are currently charged with first-degree murder.

“I am grateful for all the work put into this case in the last two-to-three days by the investigators with the Sheriff’s Office, the 14th Circuit Court District Attorney’s Office, the Lincoln County Coroner’s Office, and the Gulfport Police Department,” Rushing said. “Working together, this case was able to be brought to a quick closure, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family.”
