The Mississippi Highway Patrol is ramping up its enforcement efforts in anticipation of the New Year’s Holiday Travel Period.

The period will begin at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, and conclude at midnight, Wednesday, Jan. 1. Troopers will utilize high-visibility patrols and safety checkpoints to encourage safe driving techniques and the use of occupant restraint systems.

“As we approach the New Year’s holiday, the Mississippi Highway Patrol and first responders across Mississippi are committed to ensuring the safety of everyone traveling on our roadways,” said Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell. “We urge all Mississippians to celebrate responsibly by wearing seat belts, obeying traffic laws, and never driving under the influence. Let’s work together to make this a safe and joyous start to the New Year for everyone.”
