BROOKHAVEN — Two people were shot in a neighborhood near Alexander Junior High School Thursday afternoon. The Brookhaven Police Department with the assistance of Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
Brookhaven Police Chief Kenny Collins said they received a call of shots fired with two subjects down around 4 p.m. Two ambulances and a police car flew through downtown Brookhaven around 4 p.m. Thursday en route to the call.
Neighbors milled around, whispering about the shooting and comforted each other near the scene. Beyond the fluttering crime scene tape, two ambulance crews worked on scene in the 900 block of Bryant Street before leaving for the hospital.
Aside from the reported gunfire and law enforcement presence, the neighborhood seemed tranquil as the sun began to set with a blue bird clear sky. Officers sleuthed around the scene between a pair of magnolia trees and a towering loblolly pine.
One neighbor could be seen near officers holding a small dog while another subject sat on the tailgate of a pickup truck.
Collins said the shooting remains under investigation.
This is a developing story, The Daily Leader will provide more details as they become available.
