Victims of wrong-way wreck on I-55 identified

Six people were killed as the result of a wrong-way two-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 Friday in Jackson.

Jackson Police officers were dispatched to the scene near Daniel Lake Boulevard around 2:45 a.m.

Police say a Chevy Silverado was traveling south in the northbound lanes, and struck a Hyundai Sonata. All occupants of the two vehicles were killed.

On Monday, Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart released the names of the victims.

The driver of the Silverado was 23-year-old Jose Alberto Ferragut, of Scott County. The driver of the Sonata was 30-year-old Henri Antonio Mazariegos Perez of Copiah County. Also in the Sonata were 34-year-old Angelita Avendano, 18-year-old Juana Alonzo, 18-year-old Francisco Lopez, and 6-year-old Ezekiel Perez, all of Copiah County.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims of this tragic event,” a statement from JPD said.
