Vehicle owner shoots individual during Sunday burglary

BROOKHAVEN — Police Chief Kenny Collins announced in a press release that a vehicle owner shot and killed an individual Sunday afternoon. The incident is actively under investigation. The victim was suspected by the vehicle owner to have been involved in a burglary.

Collins said officers responded to a report of shots fired at approximately 1:30 p.m. at Speedy Wash on Industrial Park Road in Brookhaven Sunday. Investigators discovered a vehicle had been burglarized and that during the incident the vehicle owner shot and killed one of the individuals believed at the time to be involved in the burglary.

Brookhaven Police Department is currently working to collect all of the relevant facts, interview witnesses and analyze evidence to determine the full circumstances surrounding the event.

Lincoln County Coroner Blake Wallace said the individual who was shot and killed was a juvenile.
