Better bundle up for Christmas Parade

BROOKHAVEN – While Lincoln County is soggy it looks like the rain has moved on just in time for Brookhaven’s annual Christmas Parade tonight. Parade goers should grab a coat, a hat, gloves and perhaps a scarf because it is going to be chilly tonight.

National Weather Service in Jackson reports 1.14 inches of rain fell in Lincoln County over the past 24 hours. The rain combined with a cold front and wind will drop temperatures down to a low of 25 tonight. Brookhaven’s Christmas Parade starts at 6:30 p.m. and the forecasted temperature then will be a balmy 43 degrees and a wind chill of 37 degrees.

Wind speeds throughout today will be around 1o mph with wind gusts reaching 20 mph and a 5 to 10 mph wind tonight with gusts reaching 20 mph.

Friday’s high is forecast to be 49 degrees followed by a low of 31. Saturday’s high will reach 54 degrees and Sunday’s high will reach 61 degrees. Chances of rain will return Saturday night with a 40 percent chance followed by a 60 percent chance Sunday and 90 percent chance Sunday night.

Rain could continue into the next week with a 70 percent chance Monday and a 60 percent chance Monday night. Tuesday through Wednesday have a 30 percent chance of rain.

Around 53 percent of Lincoln County is still in abnormally dry conditions according to the National Drought Monitor which is the early stages of drought development. NWS forecasts the drought conditions to subside this month and winter.
