BROOKHAVEN — A drawing of The Drury House was left unscathed on a wall licked by flames Monday. Business Owner Joanna Busby walked through the charred remains Tuesday afternoon and examined the damage.

She said The Drury House was a total loss after a fire Monday. Brookhaven Fire Department responded quickly to the fire and suppressed three rooms which were fully engulfed in flames. Holes in the walls and ceilings are a testament to the work of firefighters extinguishing hotspots as the fire moved through the walls and empty spaces of the old home.

Busby said she was very thankful for the outpouring of support from the community.

“The love and encouragement has been overwhelming to our family,” Busby said. “We are thankful for everyone who has supported us.”

The Drury House started out as a vendors gallery before turning into an event venue.

Busby said her son Abel was not handling the loss well. Brookhaven Fire Captain Blake Wallace took the time to show Abel the fire trucks and cheer him up. He also took the time to speak with Joanna’s husband Stuart Busby Monday.

Looking at the home, Joanna Busby said the one option left to do is to rebuild.

“This is not the end. God has given me a new vision for this place and we will be turning into something even better,”Joanna Busby said. “There was a lot of love that went into this house. Not just us but we had people who reached out to us that lived here before. It wasn’t just us who have made memories here. There are several who had memories in this home for almost 120 years. We did the best to honor them with the time we had the home.”
