NEW SIGHT — A woman died in a trailer home fire on Newman Trail Monday evening. The fire is under investigation by the Mississippi State Fire Marshall’s Office.
Lincoln County Coroner Blake Wallace identified the victim as Vicki McCollough, 55, who was a resident of the trailer home. Wallace said the family was notified.
Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said their protocol on any fire with a fatality is to have the state investigate the fire.
“They will be the lead on it with it being a fatality and we will assist them in the investigation,” Rushing said.
Firefighters from New Sight, Heucks Retreat, Loyd Star, Zetus, Hog Chain and Wesson Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the blaze. Firefighters and a Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputy first on scene reported heavy smoke showing and a fully engulfed trailer.
Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency Director Chris Reid helped with the initial fire suppression and coordinated the work of volunteer fire fighters. He checked on fire fighters as the night wrapped up.
Fire Departments were dispatched to the call around 4:20 p.m. and arrived on scene by 4:30 and crews did not completely clear the scene until after 8 p.m.
