BROOKHAVEN — A dark plume of smoke billowed over the skyline behind Lincoln County Supervisors Keith Lewis and John David Hart Monday morning. Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency Director Chris Reid left the meeting after receiving a phone call around 9:30 a.m. and went to a structure fire on Drury Street.
Brookhaven Fire Chief Jeff Ainsworth confirmed the fire was at The Drury House on Drury Street as firefighters worked to put it out. Initially, three rooms were engulfed in flames when Brookhaven Fire Department made its interior attack.
Business owner Joanna Busby said thankfully no one was in the building at the time of the fire. Her AirBnB guests checked out Sunday. The Drury House served as both a bed and breakfast and event venue and was previously a vendors gallery.
One firefighter was taken to the hospital but was later released.
Firefighters continued to work the scene and putting out hotspots well after 12:15 p.m. There appears to be extensive damage.
The Daily Leader will continue to provide updates on The Drury House as they become available.
