BROOKHAVEN — The Brookhaven Little Theatre is nearing the first night to perform the musical Annie. Based on the popular comic strip by Harold Gray, BLT’s rendition will be two hours long and suitable for all ages. 

Steven McMorris, production manager, said the musical adaptation of the show is set during Christmas time making its December showing ideal. 

“It has all of the recognizable songs and the story line is the same but it ends up being a Christmas story,” McMorris said. “She gets invited into the Warbucks home for Christmas. It is all set during Christmas.”

Annie is a mixture of “pluck and positivity,” as the orphan is determined to find her parents and escape Miss Hannigan’s cruel and bitter ways. With help of other orphans, Annie escapes to New York City where she has adventure after fun filled adventure. 

For example, Annie meets Franklin Delano Rosevelt whom she befriends. Annie eventually finds a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

Brookhaven Little Theatre is not using a giant main set like it has in the past for shows such as The Play that Goes Wrong or the Addams Family. McMorris said they are actually using a lot of moving pieces on stage to set scenes. 

Annie also features a cast of new up and coming actors and actresses. 

“I’m most proud of the group of amazing young kids we have performing. Annie features a lot of young kids,” McMorris said. “We have some really strong kids who are making their first appearance in an adult play. It has helped them grow and we have some new faces on stage. It will hopefully foster a desire to continue to do shows for the new kids.”

Josh Davis will play Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Greenlea Pace of Bay Springs and Emilee Britt of Brookhaven will split duties for the role of Annie. Sandy will be played by the dog of Jillian and Nic Ricceri. 

Tickets for the show are around $20. BLT will perform Annie on the dates and times below.
