BROOKHAVEN — The National Weather Service warns of severe storms rolling through the area late Wednesday night into Thanksgiving morning. Frost will also threaten the area Saturday and Sunday.
According to the NWS, isolated severe storms are possible late Wednesday night into mid morning on Thanksgiving Day. There could be damaging wind gusts, hail up to a quarter in size and a tornado can not be ruled out. The timing for these storms will be from around midnight to 11 a.m.
Lincoln County and much of the central and southern portions of Mississippi are at a marginal risk for severe storms Wednesday night.
Any rainfall would continue to help Lincoln County return to normal moisture levels and get out of drought conditions. Last week, the United States Drought Monitor reported conditions had improved but about half of Lincoln County was still in abnormally dry conditions.
Frost and freeze conditions could be present across Lincoln County and much of Mississippi Saturday through Monday. Widespread frost is in the forecast as temperatures could drop between 30 to 32 degrees. Minor damage to unprotected vegetation is possible.
