Subject shot by police in Monticello confrontation

An unidentified subject received non-life-threatening injuries when he was shot by a police officer Wednesday in Monticello.
Officers with the Monticello Police Department encountered a subject near a gas station who presented a weapon toward them while entering a vehicle. One officer then discharged his weapon, striking the subject.
The subject then transported himself to a local hospital. The involved officers did not receive any serious injuries.
This information is preliminary and subject to change. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident and gathering evidence. Upon completion of the investigation, MBI agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
Monticello Police Chief Jeffrey Letchworth said Thursday he could not release any further details on the incident since it was currently under investigation by MBI.
