Oak Hill water project advances

The Oak Hill subdivision water project in Brookhaven is moving along, engineer Mike McKenzie told aldermen Tuesday.
The main line has been laid, and needs to be pressure tested. Afterward, service lines will be set up along it for those residences wanting service.
The City approved adding the line in January 2024.
“Running a fire line into Oak Hill has been discussed several times,” McKenzie, of WGK Engineering, said at the time.
The subdivision has had no city water or sewer service, operating instead on privately-owned systems in place prior to its incorporation into the municipality. If the Brookhaven Fire Department needs to respond to a fire on Oak Hill Drive, it is unable to access hydrants to keep water supplied, because no hydrants exist — because there has been no water line — along the one-mile road.
Installation of a fire loop water line and hydrants would allow the city to provide better fire safety services for the citizens who live in the subdivision and its few side roads, said McKenzie and Fire Chief Jeff Ainsworth.
The City was told to expect costs to reach up to $500,000 for the entire project.
The board also approved a low bid of $66,000 from Greenbriar Digging Services to extend a ditch project. The ditch runs primarily north-south between Calcote Loop NE and Hwy. 51 N, behind Co-Lin Feed and Seed and RB Wall Oil.
The project will entail cleaning out 125 feet of riff raff, cleaning out an additional 375-foot length, and laying new riff raff rock along the full 500 feet of the ditch.
In other business, the City also:
