Animals in need of loving homes, care

BROOKHAVEN — Dozens of animals desperately need loving homes according to the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League. The animal shelter issued a shelter update from September on social media outlets Monday.

BARL states it continues to see a high volume of surrenders with less adoptions than surrenders. Demand remains critical and the league is working to help as many animals as they can.

As of Oct. 7, 57 dogs and 35 cats were in BARL’s direct care with 43 animals on a waitlist and five animals in foster care. BARL  reports 14 dogs were adopted in September and 37 cats were adopted.

Lincoln County residents can help BARL in a few ways. First, promote the spaying and neutering of pets. Adopt animals which coincides with the Empty the Shelters Event set for Oct. 15.

People can microchip their pet to be sure if the animal escapes or is stolen it can be found and returned to its rightful owner.

Volunteer at BARL by contacting the volunteer coordinator at 601-341-5234. Cuddlers are needed to help animals become less shy and afraid around humans from 12-3 Thursdays through Saturday.

Food donations are always needed, people can drop off donations at BARL, Petsense or Tractor Supply.
