BROOKHAVEN — Hurricane Milton has explosively intensified to feature 175 mph wind gusts as it moves eastward towards Florida. It is currently located near the northwestern point of the Yucatan Peninsula.

According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida, the path of the storm will take it towards the Florida Panhandle and out to the Atlantic Ocean. At this time, there are no forecasted impacts for Mississippi.

National Weather Service in Jackson does not show a chance of rain for Brookhaven’s forecast in the next seven days. Lincoln County is under abnormally dry conditions and the lack of rain could cause further drought conditions to develop. Wildfire danger conditions could develop with low humidity, dry fuels and steady winds. Wind gusts could reach 20 mph tonight and Tuesday.
