A case of car vs. cleaners on West Court Street

On Sunday afternoon, Ole Brook Cleaners at 107 West Court Street was the victim of a hit-and-run. The building suffered the impact of a vehicle striking it, before the driver left the scene.
Business owner Cullen Greer said a neighboring businessman saw or heard the impact and saw a woman driver in the car as it sat briefly where the vehicle had hit the front window of the business.
“She sat there for a couple of minutes and then took off,” Greer said. “But he was able to get the tag number.”
A passing motorist also saw the wreck and contacted an Ole Brook Cleaners employee whom she knew. The employee called Greer, and Brookhaven Police were soon on the scene.
Greer, who took on Bulldog Cleaners in early summer — and officially changed the name to Ole Brook in September — rents the building from the property owner.
“This whole wall will probably have to be replaced,” said Greer.
“It’s not the drive-thru side, but it was yesterday,” he joked Monday morning.
Greer said he believes that none of the cleaners’ inventory was affected, and building repairs should begin this week. For now, the damaged area has been sealed off with plywood.
“We’re still open,” Greer said. “The business is still going.”
BPD is working the case.
