A 32-year-old Brookhaven man has been sentenced to serve 35 years in prison on charges of illegal drug trafficking and intent to distribute.
On Thursday, Sept. 19, after a one-day trial in the Circuit Court of Lincoln County, a jury found Pierre Thomas II guilty of aggravated trafficking of at least 250 grams of methamphetamines, and possession of 10-30 grams of cocaine with the intent to distribute. The case arose from a traffic stop in Brookhaven in July 2021. Thomas fled from Brookhaven Police Officer Reginald Cain, and upon a search of the vehicle, large amounts of methamphetamines and cocaine were discovered.
Judge Michael Taylor sentenced Thomas to 25 years on the meth charge and 15 years on the cocaine charge. He must serve the first 10 of the cocaine sentence. The sentences will run consecutively to one another, for a total of 35 years to serve. Taylor also granted the State’s motion to amend Thomas as a habitual offender. Thomas will serve the 35 years day-for-day without early release or parole.
“I would like to thank the Brookhaven Police Department for helping us to get this poison off of our streets,” said District Attorney Brendon Adams. “We are sending a message that the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics in our communities will not be tolerated. These drugs are not only having a deep impact on our society, but they are ending up in the hands of our children, and that is our future. We will continue to work tirelessly to hold those that bring this poison into our communities accountable for their actions.”
Assistant District Attorneys Joey Norton and Steven Waldrup prosecuted this case.
“This was my team’s second trial in three days and I could not be more proud of the work that they are doing,” said Adams. “We are drawing a line in the sand. Those that break the law will be brought to justice.”
